Rien trouvé a date , RPO , photos , renseignements etc ...

Re: Quiz-rally innovations Pontiac
The original Grand Am was first produced in the summer of 1973. It was placed on the GM A platform . The Grand Am was available as a sedan or coupe. The Grand Am had a variety of engines; 147 Grand Ams had engines with a four-speed manual transmision during its first year. The four-speed automatic transmission was available only with the 400 in³ engine. 43,186 Grand Ams were built during the first year of production. Pontiac also produced a Grand Am station wagon during its first year of production. Some Grand Ams had a built on ram-air induction for a sporty look. The 1973 Pontiac Grand Am style had a total of 6 grille openings with vertical bars, round front turn signals, horizontal rear taillights, and chrome rear bumper.
En 73 on pouvait avoir l'allumage "unitized" (voir 1972)
Notes:
1973 engines may have point or unitized ignition.
A 455SD equipped engineering prototype Grand Am has been built, but supposedly was dismantled and destroyed.
1974 engines may have point or unitized ignition or starting from May 1, 1974, HEI ignition.
1975 engines have HEI ignition.
Pontiac Engineering originally ordered a Lemans wagon and had it rebuilt to Grand Am specifications. The front fascia, suspension, full interior, custom rear seats, and other details reflected the tenor of Grand Am coupes and sedans. This wagon remained in the Pontiac Engineering fleet for two years, after which Pontiac decided to retire it. After replacing the Grand Am front end with Lemans sheetmetal, Pontiac sold it as a well-used Lemans wagon.Tom Goad bought it in that condition, replaced the Grand Am fascia, and has owned it ever since. He had the entire vehicle gone through and rebuilt several years ago. Its odometer now registers just over 80,000 miles.

Re: Quiz-rally innovations Pontiac

Re: Quiz-rally innovations Pontiac
The letters 'WS6' represent a great deal of history when it comes to Pontiac and Firebirds. These three alphanumeric symbols represent a Regular Production Order number (or RPO) which is what General Motors has used since the early 70's to denote an option or option package. Anything you can specify (from paint to radios to tires to engine) when you order your new GM vehicle is represented by three letters and/or numbers.
In the case of 'WS6', this fabled option code was introduced in the Firebird option list for the model year of 1978, available specifically on the Formula and Trans Am models. At that time, the option code WS6 represented a state-of-the-art ride and handling package that took high performance driving to new heights. Consisting of substantial suspension, steering, and tire upgrades, the WS6 package gave Pontiac a world-class handling champion that was untouched by any other North American car (including the Corvette in many cases) and matching the best of what European sports cars could provide. You could spot a WS6 Trans Am back then by the special 8 inch wide "snowflake" wheels shown above.
The WS6 suspension and handling package remained on the option lists from its inception until the introduction of the 4th generation F-body (Firebird and Camaro). Throughout these years (1978-1992), the WS6 package was reserved for the Firebird (Trans Am or Formula) owner who wanted the sharpest handling sports coupe. With the entire chassis redesign for the 4th generation Firebird for 1993, Pontiac opted to simplify the order process by including the top level suspension offerings as standard on the V8 Firebirds (also simplified to two models and 1 engine: Formula and Trans Am both equipped with the then-new LT1 350 V8 ). Thus, there was no need for a separate high-end 'WS6'-type option.

Throttle body injection (TBI or CFI)
Throttle-body injection (called TBI by General Motors and CFI by Ford) was introduced in the mid 1980's as a transition technology toward individual port injection. The TBI system injects fuel at the throttle body (the same location where a carburetor introduced fuel). The induction mixture passes through the intake runners like a carburetor system. The justification for the TBI/CFI phase was low cost. Many of the carburetor's supporting components could be reused such as the air cleaner, intake manifold and fuel line routing. This postponed the redesign and tooling costs of these components. Most of these components were later redesigned for the next phase of fuel injection's evolution, which is individual port injection, commonly known as EFI. TBI was used briefly on passenger cars during the mid 80's, and by GM on heavy duty trucks all the way through OBD-I (ending in 1995).
